and often provides the information required to de-bunk (or occasionally
prove) the validity of the latest internet rumour or photograph.

Also for a quick look at a collection of current
stories from around the world about unusual phenomena I take a peak
at...
www.forteantimes.com
Another site I like and which I recommend to
people who want an antidote to all the "where the Apollo moon landings
faked" conspiracy rubbish (or who want to educate themselves on
how much the "science" in a lot of Sci Fi movies is shall we say
wide of the mark) is.....
www.badastronomy.com
Finally for this first selection I must mention
a site I am sure most people know and one I can while hours away
searching....

www.darkemporium.com
A web manga which follows the exploits of nipponofile
Piro and his sometimes delusional friend Largo. Through a series
of mishaps they find themselves living in Tokyo but each sees it
through the filter of their own obsessions. Dating-sim playing Piro
enhabits a sentimental world of failing to undersand women and neurotic
underachievement. First person perspective shoot-em-up playing Largo,
on the other hand, enhabits a world of zombie hoards, the Queen
of Darkness, Ninjas, Drunken monsters trampling the city and singing
badly and implacible foes who work for Sony.
megatokyo.com
Although ostensibly about tall buildings the
denizens of this sites fora tend to be interested in architecture
and civil engineering in general. A gret place to keep informed
about what notable buildings and infrastructure projects are being
planned and to see photos of the ones already built.
